HELP YOURSELF SHELF FOOD PANTRY

The Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry, located at St. Philip’s Church, 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset, would like to extend profound thanks to one and all who help fund the Shelf ’s mission of providing food to those living in a food insecure situation.

A recent generous donation made by the Midcoast Federal Credit Union will go far when purchasing supplies through Good Shepherd Food Bank, as well as at local stores. The Credit Union has been a steady supporter of the Shelf ’s mission which is very much appreciated by those involved.

The Wiscasset Senior Center and the patrons of the bottle redemption box at the Wiscasset Transfer Station, as well as individuals who provide funds, gardeners who provide fresh produce, and those who leave donations anonymously at our door need to know your contributions are also highly prized. You continue to make it possible to help with food for anyone from anywhere in need. Each week there are also gleanings from the local Hannaford stores that thankfully enlarge the scope of pantry offerings.

Among those attending are the unemployed looking for work, the working poor of all ages and family configurations, often holding down multiple jobs who still have difficulty making ends meet, as well as seniors living on very tight budges who would be in worse straits were it not for the ability to access food pantries.

The Help Yourself Shelf doors are open each Thursday from 4:30-6 p.m. While official pantry time begins at 5 p.m., it is important that clients arrive ahead of time to sign in and to examine what is available for selection. This allows for a smoother pantry event.

For more information or for an emergency food distribution, please call St. Philip’s Church at (207) 882- 7184. Leave a message with a return phone number, and a Pantry volunteer will return the call.
