AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine wildlife officials say applications to enter the 2012 anydeer permit lottery are available online.
Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife online applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15. Paper applications may be submitted in person or by mail no later than July 27.
To apply online, visit www.mefishwildlife.com. The department no longer mails paper applications.
A total of 34,160 any-deer permits will be issued for this year’s whitetail deer hunting season, which begins in late October. It’s bucks only in all other wildlife management districts.
It’s free to apply for the anydeer permit lottery. The drawing will be held on Sept. 7.
The any-deer or antlerless deer permit system is part of a strategy to rebuild Maine’s deer herd.
