BRUNSWICK — Southern Maine Community College has renamed its highly acclaimed composites program to reflect the way the program has evolved.
The Composite Science and Manufacturing program provides education and real-world experience while preparing students to enter advanced manufacturing industries in jobs that include quality control technicians, engineering technicians and shift supervisors. Students also have the option to pursue a bachelor’s degree through a credit transfer agreement with UMass Lowell.
The program was formerly called the Composite Technology program.
“We provide students with theoretical knowledge and the practical skills that are essential in today’s composite manufacturing industries,” said program chairman Andy Schoenberg. “Our graduates can use their skills in a wide range of industries, whether it be microelectronics, industrial manufacturing, construction, boat building or even aerospace.”
The program is based in the Maine Advanced Engineering & Technology Center at SMCC’s Midcoast Campus in Brunswick.
