WESTPORT — It looks there will be fair weather for the upcoming 10th Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race, that will take place on Sunday, August 24, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. (The “Fun Walk” starts at 8:30a.m.) This is always an exciting race on bridge-accessible Westport Island, on a beautiful USATF-certified course running through scenic pine and fir tree forests, and along the water. Registration for the race will be at the Old Town Hall on the Main Road, beginning at 7:30a.m. on race day, where race packets can be picked up. The proceeds from the event go to the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department. Over the past nine years, the fire fighters have received over $13,000 in proceeds from the race.
Online registration for the 10K road race and “fun walk” is at www.westportisland.org and will be open through today, Friday, August 22, 2014; or sign up on race day. Awards will be presented to top male and female finishers, and to age group winners. Raffle prizes and postrace refreshments for all. Professional race timing by 5K Sports Management.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
