AUBURN (AP) — Police say a 51-year-old woman has died following an apartment fire in Auburn.
Police say they received word of an apartment fire on Hampshire Street shortly after midnight Sunday. When authorities arrived, smoke was seen coming out of the second floor of an apartment building.
Officials say the woman was located in her apartment and transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The woman’s name was not immediately released.
The fire was quickly placed under control before spreading within the building or to adjacent buildings.
Authorities say the fire is under investigation.
