PORTLAND — The Eastern League of Professional Baseball has selected Portland Sea Dogs right-handed pitcher Justin Haley as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 25 through September 1.
In two starts, Haley posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 13 innings.
In his first outing of the week, Haley fired six shutout innings, yielding just four hits and notching five strikeouts as the Sea Dogs defeated the Reading Fightin’ Phils, 3-0.
On August 30, he tied a career-high with nine strikeouts while holding the Harrisburg Senators to four hits over seven shutout innings as Portland defeated Harrisburg, 5-1.
Haley joined the Sea Dogs on July 30 after receiving a promotion from High-A Salem, where the righty had produced a 7-4 record with a save and a 2.82 ERA in 19 games. In six games with the Sea Dogs, Haley is 3-2 with a 1.19 ERA. He was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 2-8. He was also selected to the Carolina League All-Star team.
The Orangevale, Calif., native was selected by the Red Sox in the sixth round of the June 2012 draft.
