BRUNSWICK — The Genesis Fund has raised the $475,000 required to receive a matching grant from the Community Development Financial Institution Fund at the U.S. Treasury Department.
The award, coupled with donations from individuals, banks, organizations and foundations, created $950,000 in new lending capital for affordable housing and vital community facility projects in Maine.
The new capital will immediately be used to fund affordable housing and community projects in Biddeford, Lewiston, Lincolnville, Strong, Guilford, North Anson, Kingfield and Stratton.
For 24 years, the Genesis Fund has played a role in financing opportunities that address critical needs, and sustain and strengthen communities throughout Maine. Flexible and innovative financing from the Genesis Fund has made more than 200 affordable housing and community facility projects possible.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
