Veterans possess the skills, discipline and leadership necessary to kick-start and operate successful businesses. Did you know, according to the SBA, veteran business owners:
— Are responsible for nearly one out of every ten small businesses in America
— Employ nearly six million workers
— Generate over $1.5 trillion in receipts each year
— Are 45 percent more likely to be selfemployed than non-veterans.
Each year the SBA helps more than 200,000 veterans, service-disabled veterans and reservists start and grow their small businesses. To learn more about additional opportunities for veterans available through the SBA, visit www.sba.gov/vets.
Keeping on with the theme of veterans, may we all pause to observe Veterans Day which recognizes the end of World War 1. An armistice between the Allies and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Nov. 11, 1918. Each year Nov. 11 is a day of celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Also next week, on Nov. 12, we encourage all veterans, service members and their families who are looking for jobs to attend the “Hiring Maine’s Heroes” Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brunswick Knights of Columbus Hall.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
— Donate blood in honor of Arthur Bourget, a local resident of Richmond, who received lifesaving blood transfusions. The date is Wednesday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bill Dodge Auto Group, 262 Bath Road, Brunswick. Call the Red Cross to make your appointment: 1-800 RED CROSS. All donors receive personal satisfaction in that for every pint donated, three lives can be saved.
