YARMOUTH

The Yarmouth/Freeport/ Gray-New Gloucester girls high school hockey team traded goals with Cape Elizabeth/ Waynflete/ South Portland on Monday, eventually escaping with a 7-6 win.

Eliza Connelly starting the scoring for Cape Elizabeth, followed by a score from Sophia Venditti. In between, Katie Clemmer found the net for the Clippers (5-3) and the period ended 2-1.

Goals from Katie Zajkowski, Hannah Bosworth and Venditti gave the Capers a 5-4 lead heading into the final frame, but there was more scoring on the way. Clemmer scored just 3:19 into the period to even things up before Freeport’s Kelsey Meyer gave her team the lead with a 1:30 to play. Caroline Grant’s goal with 40 seconds to go sealed the deal as the Capers’ sixth score (Kate Ginder) at 14:32 wasn’t enough.

Clemmer scored twice in the second frame and finished with a hat trick for the Clippers. Goalie Violet Leith finished with one save, while Cape Elizabeth’s Abby Joy blocked 21.

The Clippers are slated to host Falmouth today at 5:20 p.m.

Boys basketball

BOOTHBAY — Tyrese Joseph scored 22 points and Lisbon survived a 3-pointer barrage from Boothbay for a 76-63 Mountain Valley Conference win.

The Greyhounds improved to 2-2 and hosts Dirigo on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Seahawks (2-2) nailed multiple treys in the contest, led by Kyle Ames with four 3- pointers and 25 points.

But, Lisbon received balanced scoring from Jonah Sautter (18 points), Henry Doyle (12) and Sean Scott (12) for the win.
