Homes on Washington Street were without power for about two hours Wednesday afternoon after a big tree branch fell on power lines.

Fire Chief Steve Hinds said today that the top section of a huge elm tree fell on the lines. The impact seperated wires from homes, Hinds said. Central Maine Power Co. workers quickly responded to repair the damage, he said.

Crews were called out at 1:45 p.m., and cleared the scene two hours later.
