BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears took the victory by game scores of 25- 19, 25-13, 25-21.
The 25th-ranked Polar Bears, who made their season debut in the AVCA Division III National Poll released on Tuesday, improved to 5-0, while the Nor’easters dropped to 4-2.
UNE hung close through most of the opening set, as the teams traded blows to an 18-18 deadlock late in the frame. Bowdoin closed the set on a 7-1 run, and then eased to a second-set win before rallying in the third to clinch the match.
A balanced attack led the Polar Bears as Christy Jewett and Ellie Brennan had seven kills each to go with six for Melissa Haskell. Haskell added four aces and Emese Gaal had three for Bowdoin.
Sophie Cornew dished out 27 assists and McKenzie Kessel earned 12 digs in the win.
The victory was Bowdoin’s 36th consecutive home win.
The Polar Bears are slated to host Amherst on Friday (8 p.m.).
