SKOWHEGAN (AP) — A 10- year-old girl accused in the death of an infant in Maine has been formally charged in juvenile court.
Law enforcement officials announced Wednesday that a juvenile manslaughter petition was filed the day before in Skowhegan District Court. The girl was summonsed last month in the July 8 death of 3-month-old Brooklyn Foss- Greenway, who was staying overnight in the girl’s home in the care of the 10-year-old’s mother in Fairfield.
The state hasn’t released the cause of death but Brooklyn’s mother was told that her daughter had ingested medication and had been suffocated.
The 10-year-old is the youngest to be charged in a Maine homicide in at least 30 years. The girl was named in the filing but The Associated Press doesn’t identify juveniles accused of crimes.
