BANGOR (AP) — Closing statements are set to start in the trial of a Maine man charged with using Facebook to lure a teenager to her death.

Twenty-one-year-old Kyle Dube (DOO’-bee), of Orono, is on trial for the kidnapping and murder of high school sophomore Nichole Cable, of Glenburn. Police have said Dube intended to stage a kidnapping of Nichole so he could find her and look like a hero. She died of asphyxiation.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are expected to present their final statements on today. The judge will then instruct jury before they begin deliberating.

The trial began Feb. 23. Dube’s attorneys say someone else committed the crimes. Prosecutors say DNA evidence links Dube to Nichole’s disappearance. An ex-girlfriend of Dube’s testified he told her he killed Nicole.
