BRUNSWICK
Buildings at Southern Maine Community College campuses, including the one in Brunswick, were evacuated this morning due to a phoned-in bomb threat.
At 8:42 a.m., a phone call was received at the Southern Maine Community College Security Center office stating that there were three bombs on campus, no location or detonation times were given, according to authorities.
The caller’s voice was disguised and the call location was not initially available. All three SMCC campuses were evacuated as a precaution.
Portland and state police used explosive-detection canines to search the campus buildings.
In a statement, South Portland Fire Lt. Robb Couture said “there is no active emergency, only an active evacuation,” and that there have been no injuries on any SMCC campus.
Matt Wickenheiser, communications director for the college, said late this morning that he had no further details.
Brunswick police Sgt. Russ Wrede said his department was not involved in any investigation this morning.
The Brunswick Landing campus will reopen at 4 p.m., according to currently available information.
