CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — For the sixth year in a row, and the 10th time in the last 15 years, the University of Southern Maine women’s track and field team has earned a top 10 finish at the New England Division III Championships, held Friday and Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center on the campus of MIT.
The Huskies scored in eight events, including two wins, to tally 39 points for a sixth-place finish. Host M.I.T. took the team title scoring 149 points.
USM’s4x200-meterrelay quartet of rookie Jhanel Potts, senior Liz O’Neal from Mt. Ararat High School, and sophomores Heather Kendall and Penny Maimone won the event with a combined time of 1:46.52.
Senior Neka Dias and O’Neal combined to score seven points for USM in the 60-meter hurdles. Dias placed third with her time of 8.93 seconds, while O’Neal took eighth in 9.41 seconds.
Qualified USM competitors will travel to Boston this weekend for the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center. Competition gets underway Friday morning.
