“Maine Oasis,” a new exhibit at Savory Maine Dining & Provisions in Damariscotta, is exhibiting artwork by Georgetown artist Léa Peterson. Featured are several paintings from her new series on skiffs and dinghies, along with paintings of puffins from her “Puffin Dialogues” collection. Other seascapes and landscapes of the Maine coast are also on display.

Peterson’s paintings show life in Maine, whether it’s seabirds, fishermen or the stormy sea.

“Something in the landscape will strike me as particularly stunning or interesting, like the dinghies we see tugging their lines at every fishing dock,” Peterson said. “I will then explore that in multiple ways on a series of canvases. When I’ve exhausted my emotion on a topic in my art, I move on. There is always another intriguing idea waiting for interpretation.”

Peterson is represented by the Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Falmouth and is a partner in the artist-owned Centre St. Arts Gallery in Bath, which she helped to found four years ago to support the work of local Maine artists. For the past ten years, she has also partnered with four other artists to found and run the Old Post Office Gallery in Georgetown. She was chosen as the featured artist for the Yarmouth Clam Festival in 2016 and again for the upcoming festival in 2017. Her award-winning work has been displayed both at Maine Audubon and the Puffin Project, and in many other juried exhibits. She is an associate member of Oil Painters of America, and her work is held in many private collections in the United States and abroad.

The exhibit at Savory Maine runs through April 10. The public is invited to a reception to meet the artist on Friday, March 3, from 3 to 5 p.m.
