BOWDOINHAM

The Board of Selectmen reelected Selectman Brian Hobart chairman Tuesday.

Hobart ran unopposed for a second consecutive term on the five-member board. He won the first in 2009 as a write-in and had previously served two terms on the board.

Selectwoman Theresa Turgeon, in the second year of a three-year term, was re-elected vice chairman.

There was no discussion during a public hearing on the General Assistance Ordinance containing updated housing maximums for the next year; the ordinance was adopted by selectmen as presented.

The board created the Advisory Committee on Aging and approved by-laws for and appointments to the panel.

The committee “will create, where needed, a menu of opportunities to allow people to continue to live in Bowdoinham as they age,” according to the by-laws.

The 2012 Aging in Bowdoinham Report said the committee’s priorities are: information and referral, increased communication, providing a central gathering place, development of a volunteer base, and promotion of inclusiveness.

According to the by-laws, the committee is responsible for identifying resources already in place and what could be added, working in partnership with other organizations, and exploring possibilities of a senior center.

Appointed to the Advisory Committee on Aging, for oneyear terms, were Linda Jariz and Theresa Turgeon; Martha Cushing and Peggy Muir to two-year terms; Gracia Woodward, George Christopher and Judy Gray to three-year terms; and Neal Brown and Ann Davis as alternates with three-year terms.

Selectmen also appointed Elaine Diaz to the Solid Waste Committee, a three-year term.
