BATH
Everett “Tink” Mitchell remains the winner.
The city’s former fire chief, who had won a tight threeway race Nov. 6 to represent Ward 7 on the City Council, came out on top again after Thursday’s City Hall recount.
Runner-up Cal Stilphen had requested the recount after finishing six votes behind Mitchell in Nov. 6 balloting. The totals then were 232 votes for Mitchell, 226 for Stilphen and 218 for Larry Scott.
Thursday’s tally yielded the same count. Stilphen said he accepted the result.
The City Council ratified Mitchell as the winner when it met on Nov. 7.
Six clerks recounted ballots by hand Thursday; the result became official immediately after the recount.
City Clerk Mary White accepted the ballot boxes as they were brought in by her husband, Lessie White. Seven people assisted with the recount: Sandra Kaler, Christina Hagan, Mary Gaudreau,
Heidi Birmingham, Ann Spencer, Sally Vose and Mary White.
Mitchell will fill the final year of a three-year term left vacant by the death of Ruthe Pagurko. He and the other new councilors will be sworn in Dec. 5.
