Sen. Christopher K. Johnson, DSomerville, remains the winner after a recount of votes cast Nov. 6 for Senate District 20.

“It was a tough race,” he said this morning. “A lot of work was done on my behalf and on behalf of my opponent.”

Rep. Leslie T. Fossel, RAlna, requested the recount after unofficial results from Election Day indicated he had lost the election.

The recount determined that 10,943 votes were cast for Johnson and 10,772 were cast for Fossel, according to a news release from the secretary of state’s office.

“Of course I’m happy I prevailed,” Johnson said. “I’m delighted to be able to represent the people of my district in Augusta. Now it’s time to get down to business to get some action on jobs and the economy, to stop us from moving backward, and to help the people who have been struggling to stay in or to enter the middle class to get working again.”
