Two Morse High School students who displayed their proclivity for science and mathematics in statewide competition spoke Monday night of that experience.
Seniors Elizabeth Walfield and Connor Quigg told the Regional School Unit 1 Board of Directors that they had fun with the “MEST UP” competition, aired on WPXT in late August and early September.
The Morse duo defeated two opponents and reached the semifinals.
“I really liked the engineering challenge,” said Quigg. “It was hands-on.”
Walfield, who plans to major in engineering next year, said she and Quigg built a catapult, designing it to accurately launch marshmallows into buckets.
“Building it and launching were both timed,” Walfield said. “They were looking for the best-engineered solution.”
