ELLSWORTH

Police are looking for the owner of a loaded 9-mm handgun discovered inside a bathroom at an L.L. Bean outlet store.

Police Chief John DeLeo said the gun had a bullet in the chamber when an employee found it Wednesday morning in the Ellsworth outlet.

He said the employee called police, avoiding a potentially dangerous situation, especially if a child had come upon the loaded gun.

The chief said he hopes the owner comes forward to claim the firearm, but that he or she might be facing a reckless conduct charge. L.L. Bean’s flagship store is in Freeport.
