BRUNSWICK — In November 2011, The Theater Project revealed that a generous anonymous donor had pledged a $100,000 matching gift challenge for the Theater Project’s 40th anniversary. Founded in 1971 by Artistic Director Al Miller, The Theater Project is funded entirely by personal donations and community focused grants.

To meet the matching grant challenge, Executive Director Wendy Poole and a volunteer Board of Directors, with support from Alicia J. Nichols Fundraising Counsel, commenced a year of fundraising, events and hard work.

“With almost two weeks to spare we are beyond thrilled to let the community know that we have met this challenge,” Poole announced in a news release. “In these difficult economic times we understand how every penny counts and are so appreciative to everyone who donated to help support The Theater Project.”

“The support we have in the community is just phenomenal,” added Board President Corrie Calderwood. “To be a small non-profit organization and last for 41 years now, you have to have some pretty dedicated fans and some great leadership, and we have both. We’re very grateful, and honored.”

The awarding of the $100,000 matching challenge grant means The Theater Project has raised a total of $200,000 to benefit future programs. Among other plans, they intend to set up a fund to increase year-to-year financial stability at the non-profit organization.

The Theater Project is a donor-supported nonprofit organization governed by a board of community volunteers. The Theater Project’s mission is to change young and old; to enrich and inspire their living, and to provide a safe environment for original and dynamic exploration.
