SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Freeport Village Station was recently named by the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Massachusetts chapter as the recipient of the Merit Award for Excellence in Construction.

The program recognizes outstanding quality and craftsmanship in construction in the United States. The award was presented last month at the BuildBoston conference in Boston.

Arrowstreet is the project’s master planner and architect, with a team including developer Berenson Associates, construction manager A. J. Martini, and landowner L.L. Bean.

“The entire team deserves accolades for making this challenging construction project a success,” said Arrowstreet’s Sean Selby, project manager. “Not only is the 3 1/2-acre site large, but when two sides are constrained by neighboring properties requiring multiple easements, and a third has a locally significant historic building, the complexity of a building project escalates. Martini Northern and the project team handled the constraints with aplomb. The project looks great, and is a terrific addition to the center of Freeport.”

Freeport Village Station is a pedestrian friendly lifestyle center bringing 118,500 square feet of new retail to the downtown core. The team designed and built a two-level, 550-space garage — the first in Freeport — underneath a retail plaza that is comfortably on grade with Main Street. Arrowstreet’s design makes thoughtful use of the site to bring larger format retail to the market, enhancing Freeport as a leisure travel destination.
