BATH

The city of Bath will again turn blue and white the weekend of June 8, as hundreds of Morse alumni gather to celebrate Bath High School Alumni Association’s Alumni Weekend. Here are a list of events:

Friday

The weekend kicks off with the Blue & White Golf Classic, a tradition begun in 2002 by the Class of 1953 (and run by the 50th reunion class each year), which raises tens of thousands of dollars for the Morse High Scholarship Fund and welcomes 200 participants. Hosted this year by the Class of 1968, the Classic is held on Friday with registration starting at 7:15 a.m. and tee-off at 8 a.m. No spots remain for teams or individual golfers, but spectators are welcome. For more information, contact Brian Hatch at bhatch68@comcast.net.

Also Friday is the Alumni Social (formerly the Icebreaker Dance). The Alumni Social brings together any and all former students of Morse High School for an evening of music and dance. The social runs from 7-11 p.m. at the Kennebec Tavern on the waterfront in Bath, with food, cash bar, dance floor and DJ Cory Creamer, an alumnus himself. This event is sponsored by the association, with donations accepted at the door to help defray the costs for Class of 2018 meals at the banquet.

While downtown for the social, visitors can walk up and down Front Street and enjoy window displays created by the Association and reunion year classes. Now on display, they are frequently time-capsules with photographs, clothing and mementos from the class year or era represented.

Saturday

Saturday morning June 9 starts off with the 2nd Annual Shipbuilders’ Sprint at 9 a.m. This event includes a fun run and 5K with prizes for top male and female finishers as well as best class participation. Alumni and nonalumni alike are welcome to participate. Proceeds go to the Bath High School Alumni Association and interested parties can register online in advance at bathalumni.org or shipbuilderssprint.com, as well as in person the morning of the event.

The start/finish line of the Sprint is at Morse High School, 826 High Street, where an open house is held from 10 a.m. to noon following the race. The public is welcome to enter for school tours, visit the Alumni Room and archives of the association and purchase alumni memorabilia.

The keystone event of Alumni Weekend is the Alumni Banquet, held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Bath Middle School Gym. Reunion year classrooms open at 3:30 p.m. and alumni are asked to arrive by 4:15 PM. Catered by Mae’s Cafe and with attendance of more than 500 alumni and guests, the banquet celebrates its 127th year in 2018. Alumni from reunion year classes (ending in 8 and 3) fill long tables and VIP alumni, this year from classes spanning 1938-48, enjoy the evening as guests of the association. The Morse High School Class of 2018 enters the banquet hall to a standing ovation and alumni singing the school song, “The Blue & The White.” There will be no tickets available at the door.
