A 25-year-old man was transported to a Brunswick hospital Saturday night and alleges he was struck several times by a man wielding a baseball bat.
Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said police received the report shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday of a person walking on Cumberland Street “that was covered with blood.” An officer found the victim bleeding at the intersection of Union and Cumberland streets. The man was transported to Mid Coast Hospital. Hagan said he had been struck several times around the head and shoulders with the baseball bat.
Hagan said police arrested Anthony White, 47, of Brunswick, and charged him with aggravated assault, a Class B crime. Police believe the victim was living with White at a Dunning Street apartment where the two got into an argument.
“There was a disagreement and the victim is saying that Mr. White just attacked him and Mr. White said he was just defending himself,” Hagan said. The incident remains under investigation.
White was unable to post the $540 bail and was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland. He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on Sept. 22 Hagan said.
