The Sabattus Police Department has completed its investigation into a report that a Yorkshire terrier found dead on Sunday by his owner had been shot.
“With assistance of Lisbon Road Animal Hospital, the cause of death of the Yorkshire Terrier was determined to be caused by another canine,” police said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.
What the owner believed were bullet wounds actually were wounds caused by canine teeth, police said.
The dog’s owner was notified of the investigation’s findings.
No criminal charges are forthcoming and the case is considered closed, police said.
The investigation into the dog’s death was launched after the 12-year-old terrier disappeared Saturday from his Bowdoinham Road home. The dog, whose name was Wilson, was found dead the next day.
