Police arrested a Freeport man on Monday who allegedly went on a rampage in front of the Abercrombie & Fitch store on Main Street.

James M. Roux Jr., 27, faces charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct including offensive words and gestures, and use of force. He will be arraigned at Cumberland County Jail in Portland on Nov. 19.

Police Chief Gerald Schofield said Tuesday that Roux was throwing debris at the store when Sgt. Nathaniel Goodman arrived at 8:12 p.m.

“Goodman said he saw him standing in front of the property and throwing items at the Ambercrombie & Fitch door,” Schofield said. “There was produce and a whole bunch of other debris. Goodman saw someone who appeared to be videotaping it.”

Schofield said that Roux appeared to be disturbed, and made rambling statements about the company.

“He had been there earlier in the day, and an employee asked him to leave,” Schofield said.

“He was swearing, yelling and making all sorts of obscene gestures. He was talking about how they create false images about teenagers having to be too skinny and being a corporation that exploits workers.”

Goodman arrested Roux and took him to the jail in Portland.
