CHARLENE ROBERTS, left, Teen Center assistant coordinator, and Laurel Koepke, AmeriCorps VISTA member and Anti Hunger Opportunity Corps. worker. Koepke is the Teen Center’s liaison at the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. She arrives each week with a box of food items to supplement the Teen Center’s free snack program. This was an especially great delivery with yogurt, milk, lunchmeat, bread, lots of fresh veggies and more. Center leaders love these deliveries, not only because they appreciate the food, but there always seems to be a surprise that creates a teen activity for that week.

As we look at grants throughout the year, it reminds us that October is time to apply for the Alfred M. Senter grant which has enabled the Teen Center program at People Plus to offer a free S.A.T. prep course each year for the past, I believe, five years now.

We last held this course in April 2013 and had more than 21 students attend the two- part course. We have been fortunate to continue to have qualified S.A.T. prep instructors Leslie Hunt and Ben Hauptman instructing this course.

We hope to continue to be able to offer this popular course that affords any area student (we had many from Topsham as well as from Brunswick last time around) the opportunity to get additional help preparing for the S.A.T. tests, regardless of ability to pay for such courses. Ours is offered free — hopefully providing an opportunity for some students who would otherwise not be able to access such courses. We anticipate holding this course in April again, prior to the May S.A.T. testing date.
