MANCHESTER, N.H. — The 79th New England High School Interscholastic Cross Country Championships were held Saturday at Derryfield Park.
In the girls race, Coe-Brown Academy captured the team title, scoring 79 points to edge Barrington High School of Rhode Island, which finished with 99.
The overall winner was Hannah Debalsi of Staples High School in Connecticut, crossing the finish line in 17:15.8.
The top Maine team was Mt. Desert Island, which finished 12th with 366 points, while Greely’s Kirstin Sandreuter was fourth overall in 17:48.6 to finish as the top Maine runner.
Freeport was 24th with 629 points. Running for the Falcons were Sydney Ambrose (117, 20:03.0), Elly Bentgsson (174, 20:39.5), Nina Davenport (183, 20:45.6), Bethanie Knighton (203, 20:57.6), Chloe Hight (204, 20:58.8), Hayley Steckler (221, 21:18.1) and Emily Jennings (252, 22:31.4).
Tessa Cassidy represented Brunswick. Her time of 20:08.5 was good for 127th.
Boys
The lone area runner was Freeport’s Chandler Vincent, who crossed in 16:51.5 for 119th place.
The top Maine competitor was Telstar’s Josef Holt, who finished third overall in 15:12.9, just four seconds behind winner Trevor Hopper of Ridgefield High School (Connecticut) and one second back of runnerup Alex Ostberg of Darien High School (Connecticut).
In the team competition, La Salle Academy of Rhode Island was tops with 99 points, with Ridgefield just three points back for second.
