Brunswick – Richard A. Lord of Brunswick, Maine died peacefully on Nov. 3, 2018 at his home in Brunswick.

He was born in Brunswick on December 23, 1935, the son of Danny and Jeanette Lord.

He graduated from St. John’s School in Brunswick and Brunswick High School class of 1954.  He joined the Navy Reserves while in High School and went on active duty in October of 1954, stationed in Florida and Virginia. He attended Portland Junior College and the University of Maine.  While at Orono, he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa scholastic societies. He graduated from the University Maine School of Law in 1965 and was a practicing attorney in Brunswick for many years. He was deeply vested in his community spending 16 years as a Selectman and Town Council member. Dick was also a member of the American Legion.

In 1962, he married Jane Small of Freeport, Maine. They had 44 wonderful years of loving companionship. They cherished spending time with the family at the family cottage and traveling to Disney World.  Being avid sports fans they enjoyed following the Red Sox, and attending the UMO Women’s basketball games.  Dick enjoyed traveling to Caratunk with his good friend Dick Elliott. He loved taking pictures of wildlife and sharing his photos with everyone. He looked forward to his trips north and had one planned for the day after he died. Spending much of his life in Brunswick, Dick would reminisce about the town’s history and the adventures he shared with his friends and brothers.

Richard was predeceased by his loving wife, his brothers David and Gerard, and a nephew Stephen Lord. He is survived by two children, Janet Petersen of Cape Elizabeth and her husband Jay; a son, Rick Lord of Brunswick; three grandchildren, Jordan and Jillian Petersen of Cape Elizabeth; Kelsey Westman of Brunswick and her husband Stephen; and two great grandchildren, Parker and Colton Westman. He is also survived by his brother James and sister-in-law Mary Jane Lord of Taunton, Mass.; his sister-in-law Elinor and her husband Wheaton Hudson of Cumberland; brother in-law Robert and his wife Sherron Small of Freeport, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Curtis Memorial Library in the Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant Street,
