BATH — Joe Curtis pounded out three hits and pitched five solid innings to lead Maine Central Institute to a 17-5 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball win over Morse on Wednesday.
The Huskies scored six runs in the third and five more in the seventh to take control, taking advantage of 17 walks while picking up 12 hits.
Curtis scored a pair of runs and drove in run, while Dominic Wilson, Owen Williams and Seth Bussell had two hits each.
Gabe Aucoin and Tom Warren each singled twice for Morse (0-1), while Austin Magliozzi and Jackson Walker had a double apiece.
Curtis struck out 10 and walked one for the mound win.
Morse is slated to host Lake Region on Friday at noon.
Softball
TOPSHAM — Sydney Ames tossed a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and the Skowhegan softball team pounded out 23 hits in en route to a 26-0, five-inning win over Mt. Ararat in the KVAC Class A season opener for both teams.
Ames also went 4-for-5 at the plate, while sophomore Mariah Whittemore clubbed a pair of homers and drove in seven runs in the win. Sydney Reed was 4 for 6 with a triple, and Jaycie Christopher had a home run and two doubles in her varsity debut.
Mt. Ararat (0-1) hosts Mt. Blue today at 1 p.m.
