FREEPORT -Vivian Ward Simmons, 86, of Williamsport, Pa., formerly of Freeport, Maine passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Nov. 4, 2018.

Born June 6, 1932 in Freeport, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and L. Pearl (Stevens) Ward. She was married to Clyde Simmons on May 2, 1954, who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1991. Together, they celebrated 37 years of marriage.

Vivian graduated from Freeport High School in 1950 and Chelsea Memorial School of Nursing, Chelsea, Mass. in 1954 and worked as a registered nurse for 41 years until her retirement in 1995. She enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, traveling and was a loyal Red Sox fan since her childhood. She was a member of Buchanan Baptist Church in Williamsport, Pa. and enjoyed serving at her church in various roles. Another passion of Vivian’s was spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, David (Susan) Simmons of Freeport, Valerie (Lynn) Knower of Williamsport, Pa.; three grandchildren, Rachel Knower of Phoenix, Ariz., Kelcie Simmons of Lisbon, and Phillip (Sarah) Knower of Wethersfield, Conn.

A memorial service to celebrate Vivian’s life will be held on Friday July 19 at Main Street Baptist Church, 326 Main St. Brunswick, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
