BATH — Police say they have charged a Bath man with drunk driving after a car crash on Old Brunswick Road late Wednesday night.
The crash was reported at around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mill Pond Drive, about a half-mile north of Bath Middle School.
The driver, Robert Drouin, 50, of Bath, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and later checked himself out of the hospital, according to Bath Deputy Police Chief Andrew Booth.
Drouin’s vehicle had crashed into a ledge and went airborne for a short distance before stopping in the roadway, Booth said. A passerby called 911.
Booth said the driver was not ejected, as was initially reported, and Drouin was able to get out of the vehicle on his own said Booth.
Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. Booth said Drouin’s license was suspended, “and he was on bail conditions for a previous OUI charge in March of this year.”
Drouin was summonsed for operating under the influence, operating after suspension, violating conditions of release and leaving the scene of an accident. He is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on Dec. 3.
