BIDDEFORD — Emergency crews from Saco, Biddeford and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a missing person near Biddeford Pool, officials from the Biddeford and Saco Fire Departments said Tuesday.
Saco Deputy Fire Chief David Pendleton told the press a witness reading a book near the shore allegedly saw a man dive into the water and not resurface. Capt. Jason Wheeler of BFD said the call came in at about 3:23 p.m.
According to Pendleton, Maine Marine Patrol is also responding and the USCG is currently searching with two boats and a helicopter. Both Pendleton and Wheeler said Biddeford crews responded and took part in the search before being retired.
Lt. Joe Carroll of SFD said he could neither confirm nor deny there was a missing person given that the search was based on an eyewitness report, but could say a boat from Saco is searching the area in conjunction with Biddeford, Marine Patrol and the Coast Guard.
