SANFORD — Police are investigating the beating Tuesday night of a 31-yearold man found lying in the roadway on High Street just after 9:15 p.m.

Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout said when police and EMS personnel responded to the scene around 45 High St., the victim told them he had been beaten by a man armed with a baseball bat.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to the Sanford campus of Southern Maine Health Care for treatment of injuries to his head and face.

“The Department is actively investigating the aggravated assault,” said Strout.
