The Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library will welcome Elizabeth Peavey to its Pasco Lecture Series on Sunday, Sept. 7th at 2 p.m.

Peavey is a Portland-based teacher, speaker and prizewinning author. Her one-woman show, “My Mother’s Clothes Are Not My Mother,” premiered in Portland in September 2011 to sold-out houses and toured the state through 2012. It won the 2013 Maine Literary Award for Best Drama and has recently been revived. Her June performance at the St. Lawrence Arts in Portland sold out, and she has two more scheduled for Sept. 13 and 14, one of which will include a post-production curtain talk titled, “Why Do We Keep Stuff?” She will discuss the same topic on the MPBN program Maine Calling on Sept. 10.

Her latest book, “Glorious Slow Going: Maine Stories of Art, Adventure and Friendship,” a collaboration with renowned landscape painter Marguerite Robichaux, was a finalist for the 2012 Maine Literary Awards. Peavey is also the author of “Outta My Way: An Odd Life Lived Loudly,” and of “Maine & Me,” which was awarded the MLA for Best Maine-themed Book.

Her writing has been featured in Down East magazine since 1993, where she serves as contributing editor. Her monthly humor column, “Outta My Yard,” can be found at thebollard.com. She taught public speaking at the University of Southern Maine for 20 years and has also taught creative nonfiction at the University of Maine at Farmington.

She is a longtime memoir instructor for the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, which selected her to serve as Writer in Residence at their 2009 spring writing retreat. She is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker at schools, libraries and associations across the state. Most recently, she served as writer in residence at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

Peavey will examine this issue through her own writing and by discussing her experience helping people tell their life stories for over 20 years. A question-and-answer period will follow in which audience members will be encouraged to weigh in on these topics and share their insights.
