Windham Historical Society members are often asked, “What used to be here?” Most the time, the answer is quickly found. This old property shown here once belonged to the Marcus family, one of the first, if not the first, Jewish families to settle in Windham. The Taylor-Marcus family arrived in the late 1800s, and became farmers and professionals in the town. This old farmstead, empty and in deteriorating condition, was taken down and burned by the fire department several years back, to make room for the Marcus Woods Senior Housing development on Route 115.
