About this time last year, Standish resident Angel Pettengill, 28, was a stay-at-home mom, dreaming about the day she would open her own business.

“I knew I always wanted to work for myself,” said Pettengill.

Pettengill wasn’t sure that would ever happen until an opportunity presented itself last December.

“I knew the woman who owned this shop and heard she was selling it,” said Pettengill. “I really wanted to do it, so we came to an agreement and I bought the place.”

As soon as she bought All About You Tanning, Pettengill remodeled the building. Besides adding a desk, a water and tea bar, additional shelving and painting the interior, Pettengill added additional rooms, a make-up counter and a playroom for kids.

Now, a year later, All About You Tanning is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a Holiday Open House on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and also on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

All About You offers a mixture of tanning beds and booths and a variety of tanning packages.

Although tanning is the staple of All About You, Pettengill wanted to offer more to her customers than just tanning services. So she stocks a variety of colorful and unique swimwear, tanning products and lotions. She recently added a new make-up line by Arbonne International.

“Arbonne is great,” said Pettengill, also an Arbonne consultant. “It is an all-natural product line. I love it.”

All About You also carries Arbonne skin-care products for babies, as well as aromatherapy and anti-aging creams.

Pettengill also makes jewelry that she sells in her boutique.

“I make bracelets, anklets, earrings, necklaces, whatever the client wants,” said Pettengill. “I can make just about anything.”

Pettengill designs and customizes gift baskets. Although she makes the baskets year round, she is particularly busy during the holidays. Her baskets are moderately priced and are created for every occasion including baby and bridal showers, birthdays and Christmas.

Pettengill, who has tripled her customer base since she remodeled, loves owning her business in Standish.

“I love working in the town I live in,” said Pettengill. “My customers and the people of Standish have been very supportive.”

At the upcoming open-house celebrations, customers will be able to sample a variety of products from the Arbonne line and can purchase the products at a discount. Gift baskets will also be available for purchase.
