Lippman Park Family Day

The annual fishing derby for youngsters age 14 and under will kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Donnabeth Lippman Park Family Day. Register by May 30. The derby lasts from 9-11 a.m. and Brian Ross, Parks and Recreation director, says you can “win a prize for every fish caught – bring your own bait and it can’t be live – so, lures only.” The fishing derby is for boys and girls 14 and under. During the same hours, a family scavenger hunt will be held. Complete the hunt and the family name is entered into a raffle. Prizes will be drawn at 11 a.m. A radio-controlled boat demonstration will start at 11 a.m. by the Greater Portland RC Boaters. Come and enjoy some miniature boats ranging in size from only 2-3 feet to 8 feet in length. Free hot dogs and drinks also start at 11 a.m. for whole family. All Windham residents are invited to enjoy the free activities and food – and to see the improvements and changes at Donnabeth Lippman Park, formerly known as Chaffin Pond Preserve. Please register by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at 892-1905 by May 30.

At the Library

Artwork by Virginia A. March of Windham is on exhibit at the Windham Public Library through July 31. The 9-year-old artist has been drawing since the age of 4 and recently had her first art show at the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association Library in Portland. Her dream is to work in fashion or interior design, and she says that, “drawing gives me the chance to create fashion, design and have fun.” Stop by the library to see the nearly two-dozen pieces, which are on display. Visit www.windham.lib.me.us/exhibits for more information or call the library for hours or for directions (892-1908). The Windham Public Library is located at 217 Windham Center Road.
