PORTLAND – A South Portland man is in jail, accused of trafficking crack cocaine and heroin.

Carl Langston, 22, was busted on Congress Street in Portland Wednesday night, along with Carol Vining, 22, of Cumberland.

According to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Supervisor Kevin Cashman, police seized from the pair one-half ounce of crack cocaine, 61 bags of heroin and $1,600 in cash, in addition to a “small amount” of marijuana.

In a prepared release, Cashman said, MDEA agents, working the scene with Portland and Westbrook police, also found a loaded .40-caliber handgun “in the glove box of the couple’s car.”

Cashman was unavailable for comment Thursday. His press release does not indicate the make and model of the vehicle, or to whom it was registered.

However, Cashman did write that, “Langston is prohibited from possessing a gun because he is a convicted felon and also currently out of bail on a domestic violence charge involving another woman.”

Langston and Vining and both being held at the Cumberland County Jail, charged with aggravated trafficking of crack and heroin. They are scheduled to make an initial appearance in court on Friday. Langston’s bail was set at $100,000, while Vining is subject to a $50,000 cash bail.
