Gray-New Gloucester senior Ben Miklovich came just four-tenths of a second shy of breaking the state record in the 200-meter dash at the Class B state championship meet on Saturday.

Miklovich’s time of 22.62 was just short of the state record of 22.22 set in 2007, but the time was still good enough to give Miklovich the individual state championship at the meet held at Mount Desert Island High School.

Led by Miklovich, the Patriots finished the meet with 24 points, good for 12th overall. Falmouth won the meet with 112 points and Waterville was second with 94.5. Lake Region was 21st with four points.

Miklovich was also part of the Patriots’ 4×100 relay team with Cody Snyder, Will Danieli and Ethan Ray. With Miklovich running the anchor leg, the Patriots finished in 44.85, a close second behind the winning team from Falmouth, which finished in 44.78.

Ray also scored for the Patriots in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth in 51.68 and Snyder finished fifth overall in the 100-meter dash in 11.59.

For the Laker boys, all of the team’s points came from Matt vanVliet. He finished fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-8 and he placed seventh overall in the triple jump with a top distance of 40-3.

On the girls side, the Patriots finished in 17th place with eight points and Lake Region was tied for 18th with four. Waterville won the meet with 119 points and York was second with 109.

The Laker girls got their points from Kari Cowperthwaite, who was sixth overall in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.12 and Lauren D’Ascanio, who finished sixth in the shot put with a top throw of 34-5.

The Patriots got a fourth place finish from Amanda Peterson in the 100-meter dash, she crossed the line in 13.01. Micheala Sangillo also scored for Gray-New Gloucester in the high jump with a top height of 4-10.
