Wheels and

Water redux

I had to start off with this correction! Have no fear, the popular Watson’s Wheels and Water show is still the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend, June 20, and not June 13 as previously reported. If you show up on the 13th, Merry might just have you do some yard work, so please wait until the 20th! Remember, the Sebago Lions’ BBQ starts at 4:30 p.m. Call 693-6879 for more information.

Safety first

Concerned about boating safety on the lake? Do something about it by volunteering your time to the Naples Marine Safety Patrol. Volunteers help to educate the boating public and patrol the waters. Call Bill at (339) 234-2339 for details.

New Naples

businesses

Being a business owner, but more importantly a Naples resident, it is exciting to me to see all the new activity in Naples. Everywhere you look, a promising business is setting up shop. Just off the top of my head I know of Naples Custom Motorsports, Heroes Pizzeria and Cafa (the old Roman’s), Lake Region Produce and More (the old Reinhard’s), and the highly anticipated (by me anyway!) Bear Bonz BBQ, formerly North Shore Tavern in the new A2M plaza.

Speaking of A2M, kudos to them for doing such a classy job with the place. I love those pizza trucks! I am also impressed with Heroes cafa. It seems they really want to create a local haven for all our wonderful sports teams. I remember places where all the local teams would gather after games for refreshments and camaraderie. These kinds of places with local team pictures on the walls are so important to boost team spirit and good will. Best of luck to all these businesses. I encourage all of you to support them. If you haven’t been in, stop by to check them out. If you are a new business and I have not included you here, please e-mail me to let me know what you are up to!

Benevolent

breakfast

One of our new businesses is really making dreams come true. Naples Custom Motorsports is sponsoring free monthly Biker Breakfasts. Enjoy pancakes, sausages and coffee and help the Make-A-Wish foundation with your donation. The next breakfast will be Saturday, June 27, at their Route 302 and Kansas Road location. Their goal is $6,000 for the summer. Let’s help them make it come true!

Town meeting

June 24 is the date for the annual Naples Town Meeting at the Naples Town Hall. Among the items on the agenda is the proposed purchase of the Kent’s Landing property by the town. What a fabulous addition that property would be to our town. Let’s all make a concerted effort to get to that meeting to show our support for that purchase.

Singer Center

grand opening

We should all be grateful to the people involved in refurbishing the Naples Grange building. It is so important to have a space where community groups can gather or use for functions. Come help the town celebrate at the grand opening on June 21, commencing at 1 p.m.

Blues fest

Mark your calendars for June 20, the date of this year’s Maine Blues Festival. It’s turning into one of Maine’s most popular events and it’s right here in Naples. This year’s event kicks off Friday night with entertainment Naples-wide. Saturday promises more of the same with more original Maine blues acts – 40 in all. In addition to enjoying the music, now you can be part of the team that puts it all together. Responsible volunteers are sought to help with a varied list of jobs. Visit www.mainebluesfestival.com and click on the Volunteers tab or for more festival information.

Learn about

gardening

Reinhard’s Farm is offering a free gardening program each Wednesday morning in June at 10 a.m. Run by Betsey-Ann Golon, a very well-informed herbalist and gardener, the talk is sure to be chock-full of useful information. To give you an idea of things discussed, last week’s topic was shade gardens. Reinhard’s Farm is located on Kimball Corner Road in Naples. Call 787-4550 for more information.
