A motorcyclist who collided with an automobile on Route 302 in Naples Saturday remained in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland Wednesday.

Tony Shibles, 48, was traveling west on Route 302 between Naples and Bridgton Saturday morning. He was in the process of passing several vehicles when he struck a car driven by Michael Porraro, 33, according to Sgt. David Hall of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

According to witnesses, Shibles was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Shibles was unresponsive. He was flown by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, and later taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Porraro was treated for minor injuries at Bridgton Hospital.

Hall said he hasn’t yet reconstructed the accident and so is not sure about the cause or speed of the vehicles involved. He did say that Shibles was passing on a straight section of road. Though there were no lines painted on the road because of recent repaving, passing would have been allowed.

There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
