Benefit Dinner

On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Knights of Columbus in Windham will hold its second annual benefit lobster dinner to assist the Windham Food Pantry. All of the proceeds of the dinner will go directly to the food pantry. The dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 919 Roosevelt Trail (Route 302) Windham. The menu includes a 1 1?4-pound fresh Maine lobster, homemade potato salad and coleslaw, fresh local corn, coffee/tea/punch and homemade dessert buffet for $15 per person. A second lobster can be purchased for $6 each. An alternative of two 1/4-pound hamburgers with all the extras can be purchased for $9 per person. Tickets are available in advance by calling Dave at 595-8775. Bring something for the food pantry (most needed are toilet paper, dish soap, tooth brushes) and get $3 off at the door!

Deadline Nears for Nominations

The next election for the Town of Windham will be on Nov. 4, 2014. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the main gym at the Windham High School. This will be a state General Election and Municipal/RSU 14 Election. Nomination Papers are available.

You may take nomination papers out for the following seats: Town Council East District – 3-year term, Town Council At-Large – 3-year term. Please see the Town Clerk’s Office. There are three RSU 14 School Board seats available, all 3-year terms. Please see the Superintendent’s Office to pick those up. All nomination papers are due back in the respective offices by 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.

Charity Gala

Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors is holding their fourth annual Charity Gala at Spring Meadows Country Club in Gray on Friday, Sept. 19, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. A buffet meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a live auction hosted by Stef Keenan. Book Talk

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, author Russ Warnberg will give a book talk in the meeting room at the Windham Public Library. His latest book, The Chalk Line Killer, is book two in the Detective Cole Sullivan series. Copies will be available for purchase.

Ancestor Research

On Friday, Sept. 19, Emily Schroeder from Maine State Library will be at Windham Public Library for a 1 p.m. program about researching your ancestors using Heritage Quest, Ancestry.com (free access at the library) and resources at the state library. Windham Auto Show

On Sunday, Sept. 14, Windham/Raymond Athletic Boosters will hold the Windham Auto Show at Windham Mall (behind Hannaford) in North Windham, Route 302. Show cars entry, 7-11 a.m.; judging 11 a.m.; spectators from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission for show cars is a $5 donation; adults $5, seniors/students $3; children 5 and under, free. This will take place rain or shine. Raffles, too. This is the Boosters’ biggest fundraiser – thousands attend every year.

Pot Roast Supper

The last Raymond Village Community Church pot roast supper for 2014 will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church. The menu includes pot roast and gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, rolls, beverage and choice of apple crisp or gingerbread. $9 for adults, $5 for children under 12. The church is located in Raymond Village, at 27 Main Street.

Church Supper

On Saturday, Sept. 20, Windham Hill UCC will serve a traditional roast beef supper from 5-6:30 p.m. at the church. $9 for adults, $5 for children under 12.

Royalty Comes to Windham

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Windham will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. and their special guest will be Carol Roberge, 2013 Maine State Queen. She will hold court at the North Windham Union Church on Roosevelt Trail. TOPS ME No. 0092, Windham, meets every Tuesday at 5 p.m. for weighing in, and 6 p.m. for a meeting. Lakes Region Seniors

The annual meeting of the Lakes Region Senior Center will be held on Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at the White Rock Grange in Gorham at 33 Wilson Road. At 9 a.m. will be voting for board vacancies; also new and renewal membership applications for $20 each will start. At 11:30 a.m. a catered baked haddock luncheon will be served including baked potatoes, vegetable, salad and dessert. Cost is $5 for members, $8 for non-members.
