Thirty students from Brown Elementary School’s 21 Club will read stories they wrote and illustrated at a Book Arts presentation Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m., at the South Portland Public Library.
The 21 Club is an after-school program providing academic support and enrichment to approximately 150 South Portland students.
The club meets a community need for after-school programming. The Book Arts presentation is a collaborative project involving the South Portland public schools, the library and the Maine Arts Commission.
After listening to South Portland children’s librarian Tom Werley read myths and fables from around the world, students from Grades 2-5 selected stories to rewrite in their own words. Students illustrated their stories with prints they made with assistance from local artists Sarah Grey, Kit Pike and Debbie Schmitt.
The public is welcome to attend this event.
