Town & Country Federal Credit Union, which has two offices in South Portland, one in Scarborough and one in Portland, is opening a fifth branch in Saco.
On Nov. 15, Saco Mayor Mark Johnston joined representatives of Town & Country Federal Credit Union for an official groundbreaking ceremony.
Town & Country, which serves more than 20,000 members, started in 1953 as St. John’s South Portland Federal Credit Union.
At the time Catholic parishioners around the state were creating credit unions to promote thrift and family values. St. John’s Federal Credit Union was started in the basement of the church, which was located on Evans Street.
