Girl Scouts aid riding program

Hearts & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center received a donation from Girl Scout Troop 1674 in Gorham on May 14. Leaders Renee Dugas and Gail Yahwak, along with the Troop 1674 members, had collected bottles over a thee-month period to raise funds for eight new riding safety helmets for the therapy program.

The girls came up with the idea in March and collected bottles from friends and family. They went on a field trip to South Windham Blue Seal Feed & Needs to Purchase the helmets. When they told the manager what they were doing and who the helmets were for, they received a great discount.

Citing confidentiality, auctioneer Mike Carey of Tranzon Auction Properties in Portland declined to give details about the foreclosure sale or who bought it other than it was sold.

“It did sell to a third party,” Carey said.

The property at 29 School St. had been owned by Bedford Falls Associates in Falmouth, according to Gorham tax records, which bought the property in 2007. The building was converted to commercial use but retained many interior architectural details in the former sanctuary. Michel Salvaggio Sr., president of Bedford Falls Associates, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The School Street United Methodist Church relocated as the Cressey Road United Methodist Church in Gorham.
