Flags placed

Members of American Legion Post 62 and its auxiliary placed more than 1,200 flags on veterans’ graves in Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.

Utility work continues on bridge

Underground utility work that began on April 6 at the Cumberland Street Bridge in Westbrook will continue until June 22, according to the Department of Tansportation. Long delays are expected through the area.

There are lane closures at night and traffic shifts during the daytime hours, so drivers should consider traveling the mandatory truck detour route beginning and ending at the intersections of Bridge and Cumberland streets, as well as Warren Avenue and Main Street (Route 25). This alternate route will be in effect until the completion of the bridge construction, scheduled for November 2013.

Maine Ole’ Opry show coming up

The Maine Ole’ Opry is hosting a show and induction on Sunday, June 10, at Westbrook American Legion Post 197, 300 Conant St., Westbrook.

A meal with beef stew, biscuits and dessert will be served at noon followed by a show at 1 p.m. The show features Gloria Jean and The Ez Riders. Special guests are Bobby Le, Stevie Cee, Slim Andrews and Dennis Moro, all members of Maine Ole’ Opry, with a surprise induction by Rusty Rogers.

The program is dedicated to the memory of Ginger Mae Dyer.

Foye golf tournament set for September

The first Jimmy Foye Golf Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Gorham Country Club in Gorham.

The tournament with teams of four is a scramble format with a shotgun start.

Westbrook students earn Husson degrees

Four Westbrook students were among more than 600 who received diplomas from Husson University at commencement ceremonies held earlier this month in Bangor and Portland.

They are Amanda R. Smith, Joel Alcide, Ronda E. Jones, and Melissa A. Nickless.
