New bakery Porteur Breads opened Wednesday in the Tontine Mall, replacing the long-standing gift shop Indrani’s.
Porteur is located at 149 Maine St., on the mall’s first floor. Owner-baker Kyle Rogers said the venue will offer a selection of breads, pastries and croissants, along with a coffee program featuring coffee and espresso from Tandem Coffee Roasters.
Rogers said he also aims to sell goods wholesale to area restaurants. He previously held weekly pop-ups as The Bread Pedlar at the former Nomad Pizza.
Porteur will ultimately have about 15 seats in the 1,400-square-foot space, though most of the interior is devoted to the kitchen, and the tables Rogers ordered haven’t yet arrived. For now, Porteur will be focusing mostly on takeout orders and getting staff get fully trained, Rogers said.
Porteur Breads is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
