The seven-member Gorham Town Council, in a special meeting Monday, Nov. 10, reinstalled Suzanne Phillips as its chair and picked Seven Siegel as vice chair. Both received unanimous support from fellow councilors.
After a reorganizational meeting with pizza to hash over committee assignments at 6 p.m. in a conference room at Town Hall, the council convened its special meeting at 6:30 p.m. in its chambers. Town Clerk Laurie Nordfors administered the oath of office to Siegel, reelected last week by voters to a second term, along with new board members Kelly Dearborn and Charles Hamblen. The trio will serve three-year terms.

Phillips honored outgoing Councilor Rob Lavoie, who did not seek reelection, for his service on the board with a plaque. “You’ve been great to work with,” Phillips said to Lavoie.
Lavoie thanked “the people of Gorham.”
Phil Gagnon, who lost a bid for reelection in an upset at the polls, did not attend Monday’s meeting.
“I’ll miss Phil sharing that institutional knowledge,” Councilor Janet Kuech said. Kuech regularly sat beside Gagnon, once the board chair and also a former School Committee member.
The board generally meets on the first Tuesday of each month, but it conflicted with Election Day, and Veterans Day was the second Tuesday. Town Manager Ephrem Paraschak said the town’s charter requires the new council be installed within seven days following an election. So, the special meeting was called.
The board will meet Tuesday, Nov. 18, to conduct its regular monthly agenda.
